In 2007,for the first time, Forward House Community Society sponsored medical identification for clients who wished it. The red ‘rescue facts’ straps bearing the universal medical symbol attach easily to helmets, belt loops, purses, backpacks and seat belts. A waterproof sheet inside contains information about myriad conditions, including mental health and addictions issues, medications, emergency contact names and numbers and a photograph. Response has been entirely positive to date, both from participating clients and emergency personnel intervening on their behalf. Not only has the information in these identification straps the proven potential to save a life, but those volunteering traditionally sensitive and secreted details about their mental health have done much to address the stigma often associated with it. This sponsorship is available only to Forward House client partners at this time. |
